Captive back leads

For some time now I have been experimenting with captive back leads, an experiment that was born out of necessity at first. I was fishing a lake that had speedboats and wind surfers on the water during the daytime, but one where I wanted to leave my baits in position for the late afternoon feeding spell. The problem was that due to the weed and severe gravel bars I did not want my line permanently held on the bottom once the boats had gone. By using a captive back lead I could simply release my line once the boats had gone.
I soon began to realise other advantages such as avoiding the attentions of swans and geese who patrol the margins after dark. Also, when drifting weed becomes a problem in the autumn they prove invaluable when dropped directly below the rod tip, offering less line for the weed to cling onto. There were a couple of products on the market but neither was what I was really looking for so I started making my own. Now, at last, Fox have released a proper, working, captive back lead. No more swan problems in the night, no more drifting weed wiping out your lines as it chugs past on the wind and, obviously, lower line angles to fool wary carp.
Normal back leads are ok in the right situation but sometimes you do not want one left on the line while you play a fish, and what if the margins are thick weed? The captives can even be fished off the bottom to avoid weed and detach instantly when you receive a bite. The unique gate system used in the clip ensures that any forward movement will trigger the gate and release the line but there is enough resistance when sliding them on to keep the gate firmly closed. I now use them for ninety percent of my angling situations and I usually fish them directly under the rod tip to keep the line clear from marauding swans and geese. You can fish a standard back lead further down the line if needed and still use the captive near the tip, getting the best of both worlds. Unlike standard back leads the captives are attached to a length of cord so once you have bought a set they should last you indefinitely. By fishing them on a tight cord from the bank stick you can keep them clear of the bottom, if need be, to avoid bottom debris, weed and snags etc, or slide them out on a long cord and fish them as a normal back lead. For Quattro Pod owners a special Captive Back Lead bar is available that clips onto the front two legs. The bar has three split rings at fixed intervals along it, each featuring a stainless steel clip to allow the winder from the ‘Captive Back Lead’ system to be attached. All in all an ingenious little piece of kit!

Weed Marker

The Fox Weed Marker has been purpose designed to cope with the rigours of feature finding on venues which have large expanses of weed growth. The buoyancy added to the top end of the body helps the float to rise in all but the thickest growth and the interchangeable flights ensure that when the float does come up, it is highly visible in all weather conditions. Kwik Change pop up weights

Kwik Change Weights provide the angler with a multitude of balancing and weighting options. Available in four popular, practical sizes to cover a variety of uses, the weights attach securely onto the hooklink and unlike putty or shot will not move or become displaced during the playing of fish, or hard casting.

Supplied in a neat, spill proof dispenser with 2m of rubber tube wound onto the outside, the weights are attached simply by stretching a piece of the rubber tube and placing into the slot. This forms a totally secure fixture that will not damage the line. Once located the weight can be moved by moistening the line and gently sliding. To remove the weight simply insert a lip close baiting needle into the tube and pull free.

Pellet Pegs

Fox Pellet Pegs have been designed to make the presentation of trout and halibut pellet hook baits both practical and effective.

The profile of the Pellet Peg has been shaped to ensure it provides a secure anchor point even when the pellet has begun to soften in water. This stops the hair from pulling through on the cast and during fishing. It also prevents the attentions of small fish ‘pecking’ at the bait and working the hair stop out of the loop.

The peg will tightly fit the inside of the pellet once the bait has been drilled out using our 1.5mm Fine Nut Drill. It will plug the hole and prevent water from soaking into the centre of the pellet; this helps keep the hookbait hard and useable for longer periods of time.

Pellet Pegs are perfectly coloured to match trout and halibut pellets and are shaped to be used either across the ends, or crossways through the centre of pellets.

Heli Rigs

Fox end tackles are produced to the highest standards to provide the ultimate in convenience, without compromising fish catching capability.

Each Fox anti–tangle Heli Rig is constructed on 450mm of fast sinking Camo Rig Tubing. This semi-translucent tube blends in with just about any type of lakebed and protects the line from abrasive underwater obstacles. The rig is fitted with a Flexi Swivel and Heli-Bead to form a safe and effective bolt rig that casts superbly and is highly tangle free. To assemble, simply thread your mainline through the centre of the tube, this should then be secured into the Heli-Bead with a small amount of Knot-Lok rig glue for added security. Tie on a Speed Link, attach your chosen rig and lead and you are ready to go!

The Speed Link allows the angler to quickly change lead size or shape without breaking the rig down. Spliced leadcore

These ready tied Camo Leadcore Rigs with Carp Safety Sleeves use 45lb Leadcore with a special camo weave. This fibre colour combination has been carefully chosen to retain an obvious fleck to break up its outline, even when wet. The extra heavy core is encased in a woven outer sheath designed to withstand heavy weed, pads, snags and other abrasive underwater obstacles. The Leadcore also ensures that the last few feet of terminal tackle is pinned down close to the lakebed; this prevents carp from coming into contact with the mainline which can cause them to be spooked from the swim. 45lb Camo Leadcore Leaders fitted with Carp Safety Sleeves to provide an extremely safe and highly effective alternative bolt rig assembly. Safety lead clips

Modern carp fishing has seen fish getting bigger coupled with venues becomming weedier. The problems associated with landing big, hard fighting carp in weedy & snaggy environments are generally the result of the lead jamming & tethering the fish. Lead systems which allow the hooklink to pull free before the lead is ejected will leave the angler connected to the fish via a running line through the centre of the jammed lead or clip. This situation makes the hooked carp very hard to land & often results in the loss of the fish.

Fox safety lead clips are designed to lock the hooklink swivel securely inside the clip body to create a safe and effective lead system that works as intended without modification. In the event of the end tackle locking up in weeds or snags, pressure from the hooked fish is focused directly onto the clip arm, forcing lead ejection & ensuring safe landing of the hooked carp.
